LOL - the Love Our Lurkers delurk day

Greeting! Are you feeling a bit furtive today? Have you been perfecting your unobtrusiveness? Do you get the urge (hey, this is a spanking blog - we've all got the "urge"!) to be a little sinister or otherwise left-handed? (Sorry, bad joke!) Or are you waiting in electronic ambush for someone?

If the answer to any of the above is "yes" then, according to the OED, you're a"lurker", i.e. someone acting furtively and unobtrusively, someone lingering in a sinister manner or someone waiting in ambush.

More about the definition later, but why am I writing about lurkers? Well, today is the "LOL" or "love our lurkers" day, an occasion on which you'll find numerous spanking blogs enticing you to leave a comment, i.e to "delurk". So, please do!

The kind invitation for me to participate in the LOL (I always thought that this stood for laugh-out-loud, but that probably shows my age!) came from the incomparable Bonnie of the excellent http://bottomsmarts.blogspot.com blog. The email arrived whole minutes after I had just delurked myself with my first blog entries! Wow, no time wasted there at all! Is that an example of "pre-lurking" - an urge to lurk on / for blogs that don't exist yet? Please debate, via comments :))))

Anyway, back to the dictionary definitions: I'm not sure that I'm happy with the idea that anyone lurking on this blog (if, indeed, there is anyone) might in anyway be "furtive", "sinister" or waiting in ambush! It's all a bit insulting, don't you think? After all, I'm sure that you're all nice people :-)

Unobtrusive I agree with. Many or, I guess, most spankos pursue their fantasy incomplete isolation from each other, never discussing it with anyone for fear of being out'ed or rejected. This has been my life for 20 years, the last 10 of which I lurked on webpages and newsgroups. I've recently concluded that this is a lonely and ultimately self-defeating approach to life - you can't make your dreams come true if you don't chase them! Come on you lurkers, get in contact with each other and with us bloggers and see what happens! You've got to "risk it for a biscuit", as it were :)))

What would happen if all the lurkers delurked? Comments would be posted and commnets would be answered. Emails might be exchanged and new friendships formed - and then who knows what can happen from there? Go on, leave comments on these blogs, find a soul-mate and experience the liberating thrill of finally being able to discuss your life-long passions without fear. Its got to be worth a shot, hasn't it?
